Media Technologies for Business

Media technologies can provide new ways to communicate, collaborate and experience content. However, they also require business leaders to make crucial adjustments to their strategies, culture and systems.

Every industry is experiencing disruption, but the impact is more evident in the field of media. It’s the reason once-mighty giants like Blockbuster Video and Tower Records have shut down. Many newspapers are shifting online, and a lot of TV shows are being cancelled.

Companies must be resilient and flexible in the face of this relentless disruption. In addition to embracing technological advancement, they must embrace new ways of collaboration and rely on flexible, integrated systems to facilitate rapid decision-making and improved outcomes.

Digital media is any form of information sent via digital data which at its most basic is a sequence of binary signals (zeroes and ones) sent over digital cables or satellites and received by devices that convert them into audio, video, graphics, text and more. It encompasses everything from streaming movies and TV programs on services like Netflix to virtual reality surgical simulators that are used in medical institutions. It also includes websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram which allow users to interact by posting pictures, video and messages.
